Thank you so much for inviting us to ‘Remembering’ we have had a thoroughly enjoyable and educational visit. The children have had so many opportunities this morning- learning in an interactive and lively way that will help them to remembering the messages. The planning in this is very good. Thank you once again for inviting us and allowing us to experience this journey. Ps we’d love to come back next year!”

Year 6 teacher about their 'Remembering' experience

"The children enjoyed it as it was aimed at their level of understanding and it was lovely to hear the true meaning of Christmas.  We really enjoyed all the workshops.  There were a fantastic number of helpers and it was well organised. The children loved getting involved and have learned a lot from hearing the story from different characters. The children participated well – they have certainly learnt the Christmas story. Great acting!  The timing of each workshop was perfect.  We all had a wonderful time, the children loved it as always!"

"I had a brilliant time! My favourite characters were Mary & Joseph. I was really pleased that all the characters answered my questions.  Next time I would like to meet the shepherds and the kings. Thank you.”

"Everything about the morning was excellent.  The children really enjoyed themselves and the organisation is superb.  Activities are well pitched and there is a great range.  Very professional.  We felt we could relax and enjoy the morning because there were so many volunteers who were very helpful with the children. Great to get the children involved straight away.  The children have been fully engaged throughout the morning….Nothing could be better!  Fantastic enthusiastic volunteers and we were made to feel really welcome I don’t think you could do anything better! We would like more ‘Journeys’ throughout the year!"

A Special Christmas and Easter Journey:

“The Hope Journey” at Hinderton School

Hinderton School is a primary school in Ellesmere Port for children with autistic spectrum conditions (ASC) and social and communication needs. Over the past year we participated in a joint project with “The Hope Journey” and University Church
of England Academy, Ellesmere Port to present both the Christmas and Easter stories to the pupils.

The team worked closely with staff from Hinderton School and spent time meeting the children prior to their presentation in order to make themselves more familiar with the children’s needs. They then adapted “The Hope Journey” so that it could be presented in a way which was relevant to the needs of the children.

“Meet the Characters:  A Special Christmas Journey” was a multi-sensory presentation in which the Christmas story was told simply and with a variety of visual and tactile resources. These included pupils from UCEA dressing up as various characters (including a sheep), “feely boards” e.g. sheep with wool, stable with straw etc. The children also had the opportunity to interact with the characters by touching their costumes, asking questions etc.

The morning was an extremely positive experience for both the team and the pupils and really helped bring the story to life in a way which was relevant to the needs of the children. As a result the team were asked to come back to help present the Easter Story, which again was very successful and enjoyed by both those leading and those watching.

The events have provided the children with lots of positive experiences and have been very sympathetic to their needs. We are looking forward to their next visit!
